1st Day : NAPLES – POZZUOLI – NAPLES
Arrival in Naples and lunch before starting the visit of Pozzuoli, a Greek colony enlarged to become one of Rome’s major trading centers built on a still active volcanic area.
Visit of one of the world’s best preserved Roman amphitheaters and a piazza that rises and falls with the volcanic activity in Sofia Loren’s hometown and the Macellum.
Transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
2nd Day : NAPLES
This day is dedicated to the visit of Naples.
Visit n the morning of the old Naples: Piazza del Gesù, Santa Chiara, Spaccanapoli, and the Church of S. Domenico Maggiore and in the afternoon the Chapel of San Severo, most known for the “Veiled Christ”, and the monuments of the bay of Naples with the charming harbor of Santa Lucia and the Castel dell’Ovo.
Optional entrance to the Archeological Museum.
Enjoy a pizza lunch!
Free time before transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
3d day : POMPEII – VESUVIUS
Departure by bus for the guided visit of Pompeii.
Along with Herculaneum, Pompeii was destroyed and completely buried under 4 to 6 mt of ashes and pumice during a catastrophic eruption of the volcano in the year AD 79; its excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a city at the height of the Roman Empire.
After lunch ascent of Mount Vesuvius, one of the few still active volcanoes in Europe;
travel by your bus to Mt Vesuvius and journey on a moderate hike to the top of the active volcano with your guide. At the summit, some 3,900 feet (1,200 meters) above sea level, take in panoramic views of the Bay of Naples. Roam around the volcano’s mammoth crater and keep an eye out for plumes of escaping steam. If you prefer to skip the hike, you’ll enjoy free time while waiting for the group, but the trip to the top is worth the effort. After successfully climbing the top of Mt Vesuvius, relax with a ride back to your hotel in your comfortable bus.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
4th Day : HERCULANEUM
This day before visiting Herculaneum a short stop to the Villa of Poppaea (Emperor Nero’s wife) located at Oplontis.
Journey next to the coastal town of Ercolano, where the ruins of Herculaneum reside, another town struck during the infamous eruption. Though Pompeii is more widely-known, Herculaneum hosts a wealth of archaeological treasures, explore and admire the ancient monuments, preserved mosaics and fossils nearly 2,000 years old.
After lunch continue to a family-run corals and cameo factory to learn more about the jewelry-making process.
Return to the hotel, time free before dinner.
5th Day : CAPRI – ANACAPRI
Experience the magic of Capri on this unique boat excursion by hydrofoil from Naples or Sorrento.
On arrival at Capri tour of the island by minibus before getting to Anacapri, a small village situated 400 mt above sea level, for visiting Axel Munthe’s Villa and the church of San Michele well known for the floor made of majolica pottery. Visit the Augustus gardens of Capri with a breathtaking view over the “Faraglioni” and Marina Piccola.
Enjoy lunch and free time at the famous “piazzetta”
Optional, weather permitting, boat tour of the island and the Blue Grotto.
Later afternoon return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
6th Day : THE AMALFI COAST
Following a morning pickup at your hotel, hop aboard your comfortable bus and head out to the Amalfi Coast. Along the way, stop to capture the beautiful landscapes on camera and admire sweeping views over the pretty coastline. On arrival in Positano enjoy free time to explore the little town at your leisure. Discover colorful buildings cascading down to the sea, browse the traditional boutiques, take a stroll along the beach or perhaps visit the church of Santa Maria Assunta. Then head onward through the beautiful villages of Praiano, Furore and Conca dei Marini to Amalfi (or board your private boat for an unforgettable experience of Italy’s most famous coastal resort towns before getting at Amalfi). Once in Amalfi visit the Cathedral and the Cloister, lunch before time free to explore the town before proceeding to Ravello where you will be introduced to the top local attractions such as Villa Rufolo a 13th-century villa with beautiful cascading gardens and exquisite views. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
7th Day: PAESTUM – SALERNO
In the morning drive to Paestum, one of the most important archaeological sites in Italy. The ancient Greek Poseidonia was founded around the year 600 BC. Visit of the famous and imposing Doric ruins of the temples of Neptune and Ceres, the basilica or temple dedicated to Hera (Juno); the museum will also draw your attention.
Lunch at a local traditional restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit Salerno, located on the Gulf of Salerno and which has preserved a medieval quarter.
From the 11th to the 13th century, his school of medicine was famous, which gave it the name of “Hippocratic city”. The Norman cathedral dates from 1085 and is dedicated to Saint Matthew whose body rests in the crypt. Then walk along the Via Mercanti, a picturesque street in the old Salerno to join the Arc Arechi, built by the Lombards in the 8th century and end up on the beautiful seaside promenade: Lungomare Trieste which will make us discover a magnificent view over the gulf. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
8th Day : DEPARTURE FROM HOTEL IN NAPLES – SORRENTO OR SURROUNDINGS
Breakfast and transfer from your 4 or 5 stars hotel to the airport or railstaion.
