SIENA AND SAN GIMIGNANO
On this private chauffeured tour you will head south-west of Florence and visit SIENA, one of Italy’s most captivating cities, with its concentration of Medieval and Gothic architecture. Upon arrival in Siena, you will start a private guided visit of the old city centre with a licensed, professional guide who will accompany you to all of Siena’s monuments to be visited on this custom excursion tour. Walking along the narrow medieval streets, you will admire the splendid Cathedral where you can visit the marvellous interior including the Libreria Piccolomini. The tour will continue in Piazza del Campo, where the famous Palio horse race is held twice a year, overlooked by imposing Palazzo del Comune. Free time to stroll around the city on your own before having lunch a traditional Tuscan restaurant. Siena has many specialty shops for great shopping around the square and in the main street called Via Banchi di Sopra. Local food specialties include the Panforte (a cake with dried fruits and sugar), the Sapori (very tasty biscuits with almonds), the Pici (a typical pasta from the area). Later in the day, you will also tour the medieval walled city of SAN GIMIGNANO, less than an hour away. You’ll have the first sight of the famous towers of San Gimignano from afar. Enjoy a loop around the village on your own, taking in the lovely Collegiata, the Piazza della Cisterna with its 13th century cistern, and head to theRocca – the castle fortress – for spectacular views over the ancient towers . You can find interesting shopping opportunities in the narrow streets before returning to Florence in the late afternoon.
